I spent 52 days traveling through Peru by bus and local colectivos, from the northern border with Ecuador all the way down to the Bolivian frontier.
From my experience, Peru is a country that’s hard to fit into one route, unless you have a lot of time like I did. You can surf on the coast, hike glaciers in the Andes, and explore ancient Inca ruins.
So, after traveling across the country for almost two months, I put together four different itineraries to help you plan your own trip. Each one shows a different side of Peru, depending on how much time you have and what kind of travel you prefer. Whether you want to see it all from north to south, focus on the mountains, or spend your days hiking, you’ll find a route that fits your pace.

Which Itinerary Is Right For You?

Route 1: The Full North–South Journey
The itinerary I wish I had followed during my 52 days — a complete route that connects the beaches, deserts, mountains, and ancient cities of Peru without rushing
Route 2: Northern Mountains and History
For travelers chasing authentic, offbeat adventure. Less crowds, more culture, and some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.
Route 3: Classic South Peru
The route for first-timers who want Peru’s highlights — from Lima to Cusco, via the desert and the Andes
Route 4: The Hiker’s Challenge
For those who come for the mountains. Focused entirely on Huaraz and the legendary trails of the Cordillera Blanca.
